Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the Stinky Cheese Man! Though the characters may be familiar, each of your favorite storybook fables is uproariously derailed in this adaptation of Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith's quintessential children's book of fractured fairy tales, The Stinky Cheese Man (And Other Fairly Stupid Tales). Everything from "Chicken Little" to "The Gingerbread Man" gets a complete makeover. Fun music and witty narration accompany the likes of ineloquent giants, sassy barnyard animals, colossal cow pies, and enough stinky cheese to go around.

The Importance Of Being Earnest

Picture
A trivial comedy for serious people. The Importance of Being Earnest is Oscar Wilde's most perfect, and most popular, play. Since its premiere in 1895, it has given joy to generations of theatergoers. The play is often called a "comedy of manners," because in the world Wilde knew and wrote about, late 19th century British high society, manners were everything. In this play, young Jack Worthing and his good friend Algernon find themselves in a ridiculous situation after their fiancées learn they are coincidentally engaged to the same man. A glorious rendition of mistaken identity, Wilde's play is sure to get people of all ages and social class grinning, if not realizing themselves the importance of being earnest.

The Drowsy Chaperone

MAY 5- MAY 8

Returning from a hot Original Kids revival in 2011, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz age musical featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favourite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not so bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight!

G2K Once Upon A Mattress

MAY 12 - MAY 15

If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and The Pea,' think again! Following 2013’s sold-out run of G2K Cinderella, Original Kids can’t wait to bring another fairy tale to life on the Spriet stage! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that it may not have been the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of beguiling songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are, you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again. G2K Once Upon A Mattress is an Original Kids first and will enchant audiences with a timeless story and dazzling score.

School Of Rock - The Musical

July 7 - July 16

Picture
May the spirit of rock be with you! Currently playing on Broadway, School of Rock marks a special 25th Anniversary Original Kids project. School of Rock is a brand new musical based on the famous Paramount film written by Mike White, which starred Jack Black. The musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Completely disinterested in academic work, Dewey decides to create his own curriculum, turning his class into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. The stage musical on Broadway is produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who has composed 14 new songs to create a score, which also features all of the original songs from the movie. School of Rock, with its sensational live kids’ rock band, is a loving testimony to the transforming power of music.
